Professional affiliations

Chris Khoo has taken an active part in the development of the specialty of Plastic Surgery in Britain. He has been a member of the Council of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (when it was the British Association of Plastic Surgeons), since 1991 and has returned for another term until 2010, and is a Past President for the Association.

He served twice as Secretary of the Section of Plastic Surgery of the Royal Society of Medicine, and as its President. He has been a member of Council of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. He was an examiner for the FRCS(Plast) from 1994, and Chairman of the Intercollegiate Board in Plastic Surgery of the Royal Surgical Colleges of the UK and Ireland for three years, to 2003.

He is a member of The British Society for the Surgery of the Hand. He was a founding member, and continues as a committee member of the British Association of Surgical Oncology/British Association of Plastic Surgeons Interface Group in Breast Surgery.

He is currently on the Committee advising the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, on the implementation of government policy on the regulation of cosmetic surgery in the UK, and is a member of the Cosmetic Surgery Interspecialty Committee of the Senate of Surgical Colleges.

Chris is Chairman of the Royal College of Surgeon’s Aesthetic Surgery Project Committee and is also a Director of the British Academy of Cosmetic Practice.

He was the British delegate to the Union Européene des Médecins Specialistes, and to the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, as well as being an examiner for the European Examination in Plastic Surgery. He has been honored with the fellowship of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Surgery.

He has served on many NHS committees, both at a local and national level. He has been Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Thames Valley Nuffield Hospital, and HRH Princess Christian’s Hospital, and a member of the committee which formulated Clinical Governance policy for Nuffield Hospitals. He has been Honorary Secretary of the Hospital Consultants’ and Specialists’ Association, and continues to be one its Council chairmen. He is a member of the Board of the Federation of Independent Practitioner Organisations (FIPO).

He served on the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and as a Trustee of The Healing Foundation, a new national charity established to champion the cause of people living with disfigurement and visible loss of function, by funding research into pioneering surgical and psychological healing techniques. He is still an Honorary Member.
